On arrival I was informed that my choice was unavailable as the vehicle was no longer part of their fleet. I was offered a Fiat 500 convertible to replace it. This vehicle was not in my view "similar" to the Cascada I had paid for. I needed a larger car for the amount of luggage and passengers I was carrying. I am extremely disappointed with the service i received and have paid too much for the vehicle i drove which was a Fiat 500L.
They added €130 onto total bill for fuel/refuelling cost which would be refunded if brought back full. Car was full but the return staff charged anyway as he ‘forgot’ to confirm that car was brought back full on electronic form. Only sorted because I pointed out the extra charge. It was obvious this ‘mistake’ happens a lot
I was charged €70 for a second driver without being told it was extra- I would not have taken it at that price! An extra insurance was added that I did not ask for (€22). All in all I thought the priority was to add as many extra costs as possible “under the radar”!
Ticket system at the desk had run out of paper leaving numerous customers confused about how to queue. Staff didn’t seem particularly interested in resolving the problem. Once being served, I was processed quickly and efficiently.
Friendly staff at pickup, drop off was horrendous, nowhere to park the car and almost impossible to find someone to leave the keys with. When we found someone, he couldn’t have cared less

It took a long time to go through the pick up process compared with previous experiences. The car was scratched, had no windscreen wash in at all and the Ad Blue ran out. We filled the windscreen wash ourselves and took the car to Hertz in Florence to sort out the Ad Blue.

Staff at counter was very rude at drop off. Staff at pickup were dismissive and not helpful. Forced car on us we did not want or book. They tried to up sell us to get what we had originally booked. Horrible hertz.
At the counter in Florence we were told our drivers licenses weren't valid despite them clearly being valid. This discussion occurred for almost an hour before being finally allowed to take the car. Poor.
Extremely disappointed with the pick-up experience, had to queue (standing) for over 2 hours to pick up the car, no apology offered for waiting so long in line, by the time I got the keys and picked up the car it was close to 3 hours, I was only on vacation for 6 days so to have to spend almost 3 hours picking up a car rental would make me not want to use your service again if this is the acceptable level of service hertz is happy with. Since almost all rentals these days are pre booked and flight details given I can't understand why there would be a better system in place so people don't have to waste time standing in line for hours. I was so unhappy with this service, wouldn't use again.
Counter staff in Trapani not very helpful when I needed to extend contract. Staff in Rome was great, took care of everything quickly and efficiently once I arrived.

Hertz upgraded us to a bigger better car, but in Italy that can be a curse with small roads. We were told that that if we didn't take the bigger car we would have to downgrade to a smaller vehicle than the one we booked which would not have suited us. Also the counter staff member was very pushy trying to sell the roadside assistance & return empty option and blantantly lied about the price of diesel near the airport
The car was delightful and lived up to expectations. There were a few scuffs and scratches that needed identifying on pick up. The car hire compound had building works going on. It was not located on airport and the shuttle bus was rather small with a big scramble for all when it turned up at either end. There should be a designated waiting line with shade provided as it was very hot and there was nothing to hide under at the rental compound.
