“Too much hassle
Not professional service
Need to improve the service which make customer happy”
About samurai:4.7/10
Lack of English communication
Hard time to communicate on arrival through telephone because most tourist wouldn't have a sim card to call
Should be able to pick up car directly from airport
“It was okay and turned out fine. Ut it wasnt easy”
About samurai:7.7/10
We had to change car because the one rhey gave us was not good (the seats behind had small backs and no head rest. We had to argue a little with the owner in order to change vehicule.

About Europcar:8.3/10
I don't know why ask me to comment on Eurocar as i pick the car from times rental. Anyway the Japanese staff were excellent in everything. Service, car, information. I give 5 star for it and will definitely use this company again!
“Good
Shuttle pick up a bit stressful initially ly”
About samurai:9.7/10
Friendly English speaking staff.
The shuttle pick up details did not specify the level of the airport terminal for pick up that was not outside international arrivals.
I had to make an expensive international phone call to find the shuttle bus
Like: Car was slightly smaller than I expected but not too bad. Extremely fuel efficient so a net positive. Dislike: The staff didn’t think to include an ETC (auto toll device) even though I asked about it and there was a car reader in the vehicle. For a >2 week rental that should be the default approach. If you are renting in Japan make sure they include it or you will be messing about with cash at toll gates (or worse, finding gates not opening as you expect).
Would be good to provide the option of going directly to the Haneda pick up yard instead of airport counter, as the yard is located just near many airport hotels about 15 mins from the airport itself.
“Times rental car unprofessional, driving in Japan a piece of cake. (The Japanese
are very courteous”
About Times:7.0/10
The pick up service from the airport was terrible. I emailed there customer service to let them know my flight arrived after the normal working hours at the terminal checking desk and was told that if I was there by 10pm that was fine. I used there counter phone at 9-20pm to arrange a pick up and they kept using excuses not to come to the airport, saying I had cancelled the booking, my international driving permit was not valid even though they had not seen it and may be I couldn't drive in Japan even though they drive on the same side of the road as Uk.
To get a pick up I had to ask a very helpful young man from the adjoining car hire counter to talk on the phone for me. He even photocopied my passport and both driving licences and emailed them to the Times car depot. It took him until 10-15pm to get them to agree to come and collect us from the airport. We had to wait another 30 minutes whilst the airport was closing down for the night.
When we got to the depot it took a long time to sort out the paper work and then we were given quite an old car with not much tread on the rear tyres despite the fact I was hiring for over 3 weeks.
“Friendly people, considerate drivers and amazing things to see.”
About Hertz:9.6/10
Like: The mountains with dense forests, the expressways that got us places in a reasonable time. The considerate drivers, no one toots or says angry things - they are too polite for that. ( Although I did get one toot in 14 days, a fair cop. I had to desperately cross three lanes to get to an exit before the lights changed. A big white car came out of nowhere tooted at me, we merged but didn't touch for a few seconds, I slowed down and he took off ahead. Phew!) The Japanese people are friendly everywhere in the country. The island of Hokkaido; it's less populated and it was great to see rice paddies, open fields and green hills. I loved going up into the mountains with our car and going through tree tunnels and seeing waterfalls.
The 7/11 and Lawson stores; they had very good made up Japanese and Western meals and yummy sandwiches plus all the usual mini mart products. They have good carparks right outside the store.
Having the car meant we could get to out of the way places, there was always hotel or guest house nearby.
Mt Fuji, so good we had to stay there twice. The lakes nearby are lovely.
Our car was a cross between a shopping trolley and a hairdryer but it was a nifty little car.
Lots of interesting things to see - Rabbit Island, shrines on the top of mountains, gorges with rapids and waterfalls, Tokyo from the Tokyo Tower and lots, lots more. Dislike: I read on Google that we couldn't get an ETC card but now I read that foreign visitors can get a 14 day Expressway Pass for 34000 yen. I am confused. Our car didn't have a device to signal the toll gates but could we have got one. An ETC card would have saved a lot of toll fees.
On most of southern Honshu nearly every bit of the flat land has houses, factories and commercial buildings. Finally got to some open space north of Tokyo and saw rice paddies.
Very few animals? No goats, sheep, chooks, ducks, pigs or birds. There were crows and a few ibis. Most animal farming seems to be done in huge sheds,
“Exceptional service, very friendly and helpful staff”
About Nissan:9.2/10
Like: The Nissan garage staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of everything we needed to know! Dislike: The car had a little box that kept beeping and speaking in Japanese at us, we had no idea what she was saying, but figured she may have been trying to tell us something about the road we were on, or maybe the condition of the car. I think this should be explained to customers before they drive away with their car.
