The main driver and any additional drivers will need to provide a physical full driving license in their name with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 1-2 year(s).

Drive NZ does not allow to bring the rental vehicle to ferry. You will drop off your car at one port and collect another after crossing to the other island.
