To be honest I felt really relieved when the rental company finally said they would not charge me for the windscreen damage. It also felt a bit unreal. I kept thinking that without the dedicated customer service following my case the whole time this money was probably gone. It all started on the return day. I picked up the car in Auckland around late April. It was a Mitsubishi ASX from ACE. I was on a business trip and my schedule was tight so everything was smooth at the start. Around early May when I returned the car the staff suddenly told me there was a tiny mark on the driver side of the windscreen and they wanted to charge a damage fee. My first reaction was really. I could almost not see it with my eyes. I took out the photos I shot at pick up and drop off and stared at my phone for a long time. I could hardly see any difference. The more I looked the more it felt wrong. So I checked the rental agreement. I found there was already an old damage marked there and it was also on the driver side of the windscreen. After a while the rental company finally contacted me and said they would not charge the windscreen fee. I felt relaxed right away. My first thought was I am glad I insisted on explaining everything and I am also glad there was someone standing on my side the whole time. If it was just me arguing with the rental company about this tiny mark I would probably lose. As a business traveler this kind of care on small details is much more important than I expected.
