Towards any New Zealand islands, taking rental cars crossing islands is allowed with certain conditions.

Multi-island travel is still possible by making two separate bookings for the whole journey, one for each island. Single bookings that include rentals on both islands is no longer possible. STARTING ON ONE ISLAND, ENDING ON THE OTHER： Make your booking from where you plan to begin and end your journey. Please provide the details of when you plan to cross between the islands in the comments section of your booking including ferry date and time, without this information we are unable to guarantee a vehicle will be available for you. Book your ferry crossing early and check your rental agreement, if your cross-over date has changed call rental company 5 days before your ferry. If we are not advised of changes, we cannot guarantee a vehicle will be available. Vehicles must be returned to the original rental Island and we will charge a relocation fee of up to $1000 NZD + GST if this does not occur. The rental process remains the same if your rental involves travelling on both islands but starting and ending on the same. Please note you will be liable for the ferry cross over costs.

I arrived in auckland domestic terminal with 4 large luggages and 2 small ones. I went to hertz in domestic terminal. The staff told me, my booking is in the international terminal. I had to brought all the suitcases walking over 15 minutes because I couldn't take the terminal bus. Once in the international terminal, I went all the way to the car rental pick and found there is nobody in the counter. I asked someone inside the parking lot, apparently I had to go back to inside the international terminal because the counter is in there. (Thanks to the confusing signs I walked back again to the internal terminal counter). There was only 1 staff there and she was nice and polite. Got my keys and walked back to parking lot. After I drove off, there was no one to verify if there was spots or defects in the car but fine with me. Few days later, I went back to return the car, again there was no staff in the parking lot. I was confused because I expected I could check out immediately and someone would check if the car is fine and release my deposit. So I just parked the car, brought the key with me. I walked back to the terminal, and found the counter empty. There was a sign saying "be right back in 15 mins". I waited 15 mins, there was still noone. Luckily there is a key drop. So I dropped my key there. This is the most surreal car rental experience I've ever had. There is nobody who received the car back, I just dropped the key. I hope nobody is going to do anything weird with the car while I dropped of the car.

Picking the vehicle up from Auckland Airport was a little frustrating as the vehicle we hired wasn't ready for collection as it hadn't been cleaned. Required us to stand around and wait patiently whilst this happened. Coming off a 3.5hr flight with 2 kids isn't exactly what you want to do as I had made the booking nearly 4 weeks prior, so the Hertz team had plenty of notice to get the vehicle ready.

Secondly, I rented the car for one day and chose the full tank option, thinking they would deduct according to consumption, but they only refunded a certain percentage of the remaining fuel. When I picked up the car at the Auckland airport counter, they said that the model I needed (Highlander) was not available. They asked me to downgrade to a RAV4 or switch to a minivan. The service representative who helped us was an Indian girl with a rather unfriendly attitude. She wouldn't rent us a GPS or sell the promoted insurance and gas, claiming they were out of stock. It wasn't until a gentleman intervened that we found one. The final payment was 382.09 NZD, higher than the quoted 344.31 NZD, an increase of approximately 40 NZD. Due to time constraints, we didn't argue. On checking the account later, the actual charge was 422.89 NZD, and we couldn't figure out why. Communicating from afar seemed more trouble than it's worth, so we let it go as a loss. I won't use this company again. JUCY is much better. We rented from both companies on this trip, and the difference was clear. JUCY was enthusiastic and eager to help (we had a flat tire, and they sent someone out right away). Their prices matched the quote, and they were fair. I recommend JUCY for their reliability. While not as famous as Hertz, JUCY’s service is superb. Their cars have distinctive branding, making them easy to spot, and fellow renters help each other out.

The experience with Hertz was terrible. Do not choose this company. The system is chaotic, and every employee seems clueless about their job. They overcharge without reason, the refund process takes forever, there's no way to file complaints, and nobody takes responsibility. The handover process is extremely disorganized. The car itself had some minor issues. Additionally, they didn't mention any problems when the car was returned, but few days later they claimed there were scratches for which I couldn’t prove the responsibility, and they charged my credit card without my consent. Their actions are extremely unacceptable. Complaining to the rental platform didn’t help at all, still no resolution. Very poor service.

Despite purchasing a full insurance package, both branches charged insurance fees without verification (they didn't even bother to promote it), consumption tax, terminal usage fees, and fuel fees. They also overcharged me for an extra day of rental. The car was not handed over with a full tank of fuel, and although I returned it with more fuel than when I picked it up, they still deducted a fuel fee. The total charges were nearly double the amount confirmed on the platform! This is serious fraud! As a long-time user, this was my worst experience. Please give me a reasonable explanation and solution, Zuzuche platform.

Although the staff provided service in Chinese, they spoke very little. The actual card charge was more than the amount shown on the car rental website without any explanation. It wasn't until I consulted the rental company after returning to Beijing that I slightly understood why. Overall, it caused unease.
