Pick-up Instructions

The Dollar - Auckland International Airport car rental location is located out of the airport

You can arrive of Dollar - Auckland International Airport car rental by free shuttle bus.

A complimentary shuttle is available between 7.30am and 6pm to transport your customers between the Airport and Dollar rental location. When your customers arrive at Auckland Airport, they will need to either text message or phone 0064 27 808 6503, or send us a live chat on our website www.dollarcarrental.co.nz and advise the Dollar staff member that they are ready to be collected from either the International or Domestic Terminal pick up location.

Drop-off Instructions

Please return the car at Dollar's store, and Dollar's shuttle will then drive you back to the airport.

Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers must provide a full physical driving licence with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 1 year(s).

For foreign renters, you need to bring:

Original driving licence + NZTA Translation

The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), a professional organization, certifies driver's license translations specifically intended for self-driving rental vehicles within the New Zealand. Free online NZTA for Japanese driver's license holders: https://www.qeeq.com/nzta-topic

Original driving licence + International Driving Permit (IDP)

Please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is only a translation. You must present your original driving licence together with the original IDP at the counter — photocopies or scanned copies are not accepted.

Free of Charge:

Towards any New Zealand islands, taking rental cars is allowed and free of charge.

For rentals starting on one island and ending on the other, the below new process will apply. Two separate bookings will now be required Dollar has depots right on the main lnterislander Ferry terminal at Wellington and Picton. For rentals starting and ending on the same island, but travelling on both islands, please keep the same vehicle for the entire duration of the trip. Please keep in mind that the customer will need to pay for the vehicle on two ferry trips. A fee will be charged if the vehicle is not returned to the same island it was rented from. Hertz will assess a fee based on the actual cost of relocating the vehicle, up to a maximum of NZD$1,000, plus GST.

Ferry Transportation: Allowed

Dollar allows you to bring the rental vehicle on the ferry. However ferry companies may charge you to bring a vehicle across Cook Strait.

The counter stuff was nice at first, but when I pointed out to them that the fuel tank wasn't full, the girl made up a story saying it was a gauge problem, that others had the same issue and the tank was indeed full. That was a lie because twice I filled it up and it showed perfectly on the panel. That means Dollar did not give me a full tank as I deserved.
