ACE in Bordeaux is Gold Car, a company I avoided, despite being cheaper, due to its very poor reviews. It took over 2 hours to collect the car. Car received had class 1 damage, with very few panels not damaged. Drop off took around 15 mins. Gold Car have offered compensation for delay, before I have complained, of 1 days rental. However, my final invoice has shown no credit. We shall see.

We were happy with our hire car but did feel surprised to find out about the £1500 deposit payment which although was on the fine print did still come as a surprise.
The only presence that ACE appears to have at the airport is a crudely desiged logo printed onto an A4 sheet of paper and sellotaped to the wall behind the Goldcar desk. It was almost impossible to find. Our booking voucher asked us to join the ‘Priority Lane’ but there was none. There were 79 customers waiting in a 3 hour queue ahead of us. There was nowhere to sit and we had to leave our children on the floor with our luggage. When we did finally pick up the car, the tank wasn’t completely full, despite being on a full to full contract, but by then we were beyond caring. We nearly missed the latest check in for accommodation because of the delays.

The staff at the Rhodium ick up desk were very eager to sell the extra insurance even though I stated I had extra cover and therefore was not interested so pick up was long.
Returning the car was not a pleasant experience and as a customer you were made to feel that you had to pass some kind of test during vehicle inspection I would not recommend it
Car rental collection system appalling, completely ridiculous ticket system to wait your turn which was similar to playing the lottery. We waited well over an hour to collect the car but only by trading up our ticket number, we spoke to someone who'd waited 5 hours! Didn't appreciate the threats made in order to get us to buy the extra insurance for £200 which would ensure we could rely on help should we have the misfortune of being involved in an accident. Instead we were left worried for the whole week that we would be abandoned should the worst happen. We'd purchased excess cover insurance beforehand but were told that was no use! The car was not clean on the outside and in order to check the car properly we had to scrape off bird poo to check for damage, which included a windscreen chip which hadn't been noted already. Didn't think much to the car either, given it's supposed to take 5 people plus suitcases, a 1.2litre car to me is unsuitable. It struggled with motorway speed and felt like it had done 100,000 miles not 5000 as the clock said. All in all not an enjoyable start to a holiday!

No problems with easy cars, simple to book. Only suggestion would be to avoid selling ace/goldcar rentals on the site!

Utterly appalling pick up experience. Huge very slow queue. Way way worse than all the other rental car people at the same airport and time. Incredible that they had apparently made no effort to staff up or flexibly on a very busy Saturday and their process was itself useless - very paper driven rather than online and ready in advance which again the other companies had done (a relative was picking a car up from Budget so we had direct experience of that on the same day). in short - hugely disappointing.

Car was fine, but staff tried to overcharge on collection and were extremely unhelpful on return refusing to simply sign a note saying all ok having inspected vehicle and agreeing that there was no damage
Waited 3 hours to get car, staff on desk were useless just saying it takes what it takes. Will never use again.
The drop off was also terrible, staff ignoring me, badly signposted to return the car - whole pickup and dropoff process terrible.
We booked with Rhodium to avoid Goldcar following a poor previous experience despite it being £30 more than Goldcar. On arrival we discovered they are in fact the same company and had to wait over 2 hours to pick up the car at Bordeaux airport. This is apparently ‘normal’ for this company. The customer service when we went to pick up the car and found the car was covered in a sticky substance was extremely rude. We also had to wait 45 minutes in the heat to drop off the car on return. I will never use this company again.
