It is recommended to have PERS coverage when using vehicle in cross border rentals for the US and Canada. The renter must have a valid driver's license and rental record to cross the border into Canada. Canadian law does require that everyone entering the country have a passport, so everyone in the vehicle must have the proper identification.     When picking up the car, the staff tried to forcefully sell us insurance. They refused to give us the car unless we bought it. I called the rental company but the representative was unhelpful and just asked us to sign the form. Eventually, we had no choice but to agree to an increased price from $459 to $538 (originally over $700). They gave us a Mazda 5 instead of the mid-size SUV we booked. We were only given four cars to choose from. When I pointed out our booking, the staff casually indicated all four were small cars. I had to insist it was an SUV before they acknowledged the four available. Overall, it was an unpleasant experience. Avoid using THRIFTY at all costs. Their shuttle service is extremely infrequent; we waited 45 minutes for one to arrive.

    When we went to pick up the car, the staff spoke English very quickly on purpose, and we barely understood. They asked for a credit card, and my friend absentmindedly signed without checking. We received a notification from the bank at the hotel saying $263 was charged. We had full insurance coverage, but they added extra charges for roadside assistance and a tank of fuel. We went back to discuss, and they said the roadside assistance fee could be refunded but not the fuel fee. When we booked on ZUZUCHE, the contract stated full-to-full fuel policy, but they claimed it was invalid because we paid in full, so they charge for fuel and allow the car to be returned empty. It's impossible to return it completely empty, so we had some fuel left. This company is deceitful. We didn't make a fuss because the car was upgraded and the rental fee was cheap.

    Renting and returning the car was very convenient. The car was in good condition and performed well over 3000 kilometers with no issues. Although there were additional insurance sales pitches, I declined them. There are a few things I was not satisfied with: 1. There were very few models in the same category. I couldn't find the Nissan brand I booked and had only two similar cars to choose from. 2. The child safety seat rental was too expensive, $78 for 15 days, much higher than the $30-50 quote I got from customer service earlier. This type of pricing should be clearly disclosed in writing beforehand.

    Overall, it was satisfactory. We arrived in Los Angeles at night and had to wait a long time for the rental company's shuttle. When it finally arrived, it took us to the DOLLAR location. Turns out they are the same company, but this was not mentioned during booking. If you arrive at night, you can take the DOLLAR shuttle directly since Thrifty is closed at night. At the DOLLAR counter, even though we bought full insurance, the staff tried to add other insurances, claiming they were important, and urged us to buy fuel. This was quite uncomfortable. Also, when picking up the car, the model we booked was not available, and the staff insisted we take a different model. After much back and forth, we managed to get a Corolla. The car had scratches, so we had to confirm with the staff and take photos to document it. Fortunately, the vehicle had no issues during use, and the return process was smooth. So far, no traffic violation fines have been received.

    They kept insisting that I buy additional insurance because the other party didn't have third-party coverage. I ended up buying it. The Chevrolet TAHOE was really hard to drive—no power, slow acceleration, not much space, with around 80,000 to 90,000 miles on it. The car got scratched in an LA parking lot. Luckily, I had purchased scratch insurance. After driving the Tahoe for a few days, there was an issue with the oil, so I switched to a Nissan Armada. The Armada was much better—more space and it had 4WD, also with around 80,000 to 90,000 miles on it. I would suggest not renting a Chevrolet. Driving it for 5 to 6 hours is really exhausting.

Highways in the US are not tolled; when I took a bus from Los Angeles to San Francisco a few years back, I only paid $2.5. I rented a car to return to Los Angeles and didn't pay any tolls. This $105 card is non-refundable if not fully used, don't fall for it! 3. The airport shuttle bus service is terrible! It took me 4 minutes to return the car, and when I went out with the ticket to the airport shuttle, the first dedicated shuttle driver was rude and didn't let us board, asking us to wait for the next one. We waited almost an hour for a shuttle, which only allowed five people to board, and we had to squeeze on as our flight was about to take off. During the wait, we saw the neighboring rental company had 3-4 minute shuttle intervals, with over a dozen shuttles passing, while we had none.

Here's what happened: Upon arrival in Los Angeles, I went to the car rental company, where a Latina employee handled the procedures. She seemed very friendly, chatting away. Since I knew about the insurance upsell, I paid close attention, but she didn't mention anything. When I paid with my card, the amount seemed off, so I asked and was told it included taxes, so I didn’t think much of it. This staff member didn't hand me the paperwork but instead came around the counter to personally help me choose a car. It seemed like such great service. After choosing the car, the staff put the paperwork in the glove compartment of the passenger seat. That night, I drove to Las Vegas. The next morning, I found a flat tire and went to a local Thrifty to have it fixed or get a replacement. It was then that I checked the receipt and saw that they had charged me extra for so-called roadside assistance, costing several hundred dollars over the ten-plus days. This was definitely not tax, which should have been included in the total. No wonder she was so attentive; she didn't want me to see the paperwork. Later, they refused to refund me. The flat tire took two days to fix, and it still wasn't properly repaired—just inflated again. They didn’t have a replacement car for me, offering only a lower-grade vehicle instead. I wasted three days dealing with all this nonsense. Thrifty = Thief.

    This was my first car rental experience in the U.S. After leaving Los Angeles Airport, I had to look for the rental company shuttle at the roadside, there's a designated stop nearby that takes some searching. Once at the store, the pickup was fairly smooth with no extra sale fees. However, the originally booked mid-size SUV was replaced with a compact Chevrolet Equinox. The staff told us there were no cars of the booked type available. Although we weren't happy about it, the given car was newer and could still fit our luggage, so we accepted it. During this trip, we rented cars from three different companies and encountered issues each time. This was the least problematic experience.

The internal communication of the rental company is extremely chaotic. After discovering an issue with the car, I called the roadside assistance hotline for a solution. The service personnel asked me to add oil immediately; otherwise, it would affect the vehicle's performance and could lead to an accident. After repeatedly confirming, the customer service assured me that I could get reimbursed when returning the car. I added the oil and covered the expenses. However, when I finally returned the car, the Los Angeles branch refused to reimburse me, stating, 'You should have bought the roadside assistance insurance, then you would have been able to replace the car for free.' This is extremely frustrating! This incident not only disrupted my schedule but also affected my travel mood, and in the end, they even withheld my reimbursement. It's absolutely intolerable!

    The accident occurred around 4:00 PM on July 14th. After the accident, we tried contacting Thrifty car rental multiple times, but no one answered the phone. Even after the Las Vegas police issued the accident report at 5:58 PM, we still couldn't reach Thrifty. The police then called a tow truck to the scene, but the customer service from Zuzuche back in China advised us not to let the police tow the car. The temperature in Las Vegas that day was as high as 40°C, and we waited in the heat for a long time. It wasn't until 10:00 PM that Thrifty’s customer service contacted us. A tow truck finally arrived at 2:40 AM the next morning to take the car away. Our group of 10 was exhausted by the time we returned to the hotel. The 10-hour wait for assistance is completely incompatible with the service image of a major company like Zuzuche. This made us extremely uneasy about the remaining 10 days of our trip. Many places in the US (regular roads, highways, and tourist attractions) have no cell phone signal. If similar incidents were to occur during our trip, we might be in life-threatening or helpless situations. This led us to return the other car to the Las Vegas store early. We are extremely dissatisfied with your powerless apologies.

    Walking 50 meters to the right from the terminal, there was the car rental company. I waited less than 5 minutes at the pickup point before seeing the company's shuttle bus. The driver was very enthusiastic, standing on the bus, helping us load our luggage onto the racks. We quickly arrived at the car rental office, presented our reservation, the staff checked it on the computer, and asked if we needed an upgrade or additional insurance. Since we bought the most comprehensive insurance on QEEQ, we declined, and the staff didn't push us to buy anything else. The process was quick; they directed us to the backyard to pick up the car. The staff pointed to the model we rented, saying all keys were in the cars, which were all clean.     I had an 8:30 PM car pickup appointment. I stood in line from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM to sign the document, and then waited from 9:30 PM until 2:30 AM the next day to finally 'grab' a car. By 'grab', I mean I had to go to the parking lot myself to get it. There were no hot drinks available at the store, the staff was unfriendly, and customers either had to take an electric car or wait for someone else to return their car. The company also told me that I could cancel the contract if I wanted to. The Buick Encore I got had already driven 51,000 miles, and during the rental period, I had two tire punctures. This Thrifty car rental experience was terrible. I hope 'Zuzuche' can provide reasonable compensation for the above issues since I didn't get to the hotel until 3:15 AM the next day.

    The Refill gas service is automatically added, so pay attention to that. Also, it's really frustrating that we couldn't reach the staff at the store by phone. We ended up modifying the order through their Twitter customer service, which was quite a new experience.

    First, they insisted I buy insurance, but my order indicated I didn’t need it, which annoyed the staff. I declined the refuel option and they refused to give me a receipt, saying it was fine. In the end, I returned the car with a full tank, and they still charged me $52 for FPO. That's outrageous!

    Took forever to get my car at LAX. Had to change vehicles a few days into the rental, at which point LAX changed my return time in SF. But when I arrived on schedule to drop off in downtown SF, the office was closed. Apparently LAX didnt know the closing time in SF. Had to go back to SF office 7am the next morning, but Thrifty charged me an extra day and a late fee - $91.33. I followed their instructions and they charge ME money for a THIRFTY MISTAKE. I am still trying to get my refund. Will never use Thrifty again.
