I don't know the difference between winter tires and snow tires. The ones I saw were studded tires, not sure why there were special notes on the website. The road was completely covered with snow and ice, and it was impossible to drive without studs. People in Northern Europe drive very fast, usually over 100km/h except in cities, so don't drive too slowly, it's fine. The two-way roads have no center line. Stay towards the right and don't take any measures when passing other cars; any action on icy roads can be dangerous. Locals do it this way. Don't attempt off-roading, you will definitely get stuck. Even 4WD is not enough because there's not enough power and grip. There are many rest areas, park in designated areas and never on the roadside. Don't use hazard lights while parking, as it signals needing help there. People in Northern Europe are very helpful, if you open your hazard lights and car window, someone will stop to help you soon.
