Dislike: Returning the car was a pain. There was no transport back to civilisation. I had to struggle to get out. If there was a courtesy bus back to the Terminals, nobody told me!!!! I walked and walked to find a bus stop to my hotel.

An extremely long wait to rent the car after arriving at Europcar offices, eventually got to the desk after over an hour wait. Inspected the car which had a lot of scratches that were not indicated on the rental agreement, so had to point them all out to the security guard on exiting carpark. It was an early return around 05.30 no agent to check the car to confirm no further damage had been done during rental, a little disconcerting as previously with Europcar I have been accused of damaging the car even though it had been reported, eventually they admitted it had been reported, but just adds bad taste to the hire experience.

I took my rental car from Heathrow. At Manchester airport, the car had a flat tyre. I managed to drive to Europcar at Manchester Airport to get it repaired. But they decided to provide me with another car. Same model Toyota Corolla Hybrid. The guy who attended to me was MAURICE. Grateful to him for his prompt action and very fast to provide with another car. At the end of the journey I have to thank the front desk at Heathrow airport for convincing me to take the Hybrid Toyota. I ended up driving almost 1100 miles and it really save the fuel. Europcar was also flexible for me to drop the car in London instead of Heathrow. (drop box was available) this is my second time renting from Europcar.

Luxury sedan: Mercedes C Class automatic or similar model, but there was no similar model when I arrived. They tried to convince me to upgrade to a luxury model at a higher price, claiming that because I had rented from them before, I could get this higher-end model at a very good price. Additionally, I had purchased full insurance, but they claimed it was partial insurance (unsure what partial insurance means). Then they mentioned an excess of 2000 pounds, and when I asked more questions, they refused to check. I called the rental company's customer service, and an Indian-looking employee at the store spoke with the customer service representative for about 10 minutes. When I went over to ask further, they said the excess was now 250 pounds, which seemed like bargaining. I then called the customer service directly, and they said they would report to their supervisor. I decided to take the car for now.

Backstab! Renting the car was fine, returning it was also fine. But after returning home, my credit card was suddenly charged £60 for cleaning. Actually, thanks to my children growing up, this was the cleanest car we've rented abroad so far, just needed a little cleaning. Complaining to the rental company got me a vague photo. If they found it dirty, they should have pointed it out and charged the cleaning fee at that time, I wouldn't have argued. They should provide proof when making accusations. There was a double charge issue. I had already paid in full on the rental website, but was charged an additional £250 rental fee and £252 deposit for damages when picking up the car. I told them I had already paid to the rental company, and they said it was a deposit. My understanding was that the deposit would be refunded upon returning the car. I contacted the rental company, and customer service assured me it was a pre-authorization and I should just pick up the car. Upon return, the damage deposit was refunded, but the £250 rental fee was not. The car company said the rental company would refund me. I called the rental company to report the issue, and the customer service mentioned they would handle it after the New Year holiday. Needing to catch a flight, I returned the car and left. Now 10 days have passed, and the car company is still verifying the issue. It seems the process in the UK is quite slow.

I booked a Volkswagen Tiguan but received a plug-in hybrid Suzuki Across. The car had only 2000 miles on it and was quite new. The space was decent, but the small battery made it impractical for charging at public stations, so I had to drive it on fuel only, which was noisy but seemed fuel-efficient. Unfortunately, despite confirming with the staff at return that there were no overtime charges, the fuel tank was full, and the car was undamaged, I was inexplicably charged £20. I also did not receive a final invoice explaining the charges. It has been three working days since the platform sent an inquiry, and I have yet to receive a response. During pickup, there were 4-5 upsell attempts, but the staff awkwardly explained that they had to ask the customers due to system prompts, which I understood. I despise Europcar's system for this.

Overall, it was a smooth experience. They tried to upsell a higher model and insurance, but after learning that I already had full insurance from QEEQ and experience with renting cars abroad, they didn't insist. It's understandable as it's part of their sales process and shouldn't be taken too seriously. We didn't get the Grandland but were given an equivalent MG ZS with over 10,000 kilometers. The 1.5 engine felt a bit underpowered, but it was manageable with the manual transmission and generally sufficient for the speed limits in the UK. Overtaking was a bit challenging, but both cars are probably of similar quality. No extra charges for returning the car so far. To ensure peace of mind, take photos and videos of the car inside and out before picking up and returning it, keep the gas receipts, and you should be fine.
