Car Rental & Driving Tips For Antalya
Bring the right documents: Carry your passport (or national ID where applicable), a valid driver’s license, and your rental voucher. Some companies may request an International Driving Permit depending on license origin and language.
Use a credit card in the main driver’s name: Most rentals require a credit card deposit. Make sure the card has enough available limit for the hold and matches the primary driver’s details.
Understand insurance and excess: Check what CDW/theft protection includes, your deductible (excess), and whether tires, glass, and underbody are covered. If you buy extra coverage, confirm it’s reflected on the contract.
Plan for the D400 and mountain roads: Coastal routes can be busy near resorts, while mountain legs (e.g., Termessos/Saklıkent) are winding. Build buffer time and avoid rushing after dark on unfamiliar roads.
Fuel strategy: don’t return on empty: Gas stations are common around Antalya and along major highways, but can be spaced out in mountain areas. Refill before heading into national parks and keep the tank above half for longer drives.
Inspect the car and document everything: Before leaving the lot, take timestamped photos/video of all sides, wheels, windshield, and interior. Ensure existing damage is written on the check-out sheet.
Parking: expect paid lots in busy areas: In Kaleiçi and popular beaches, use official lots/garages and keep small cash or a card ready. Avoid blocking narrow streets where towing is more likely.
Use offline maps and Turkish place names: Download offline maps for coastal stretches and enter destinations using Turkish spellings (e.g., ‘Çıralı’, ‘Manavgat’, ‘Termessos’) to reduce navigation errors.
