Mesa Verde National Park – the largest archaeological preserve in the United States

With more than 5,000 archaeological sites, Mesa Verde National Park is the largest archaeological preserve in the United States. Among the sites are some of the largest cliff dwellings in the world, as well as mesa-top pueblos, pit houses, and kivas (subterranean rooms used for meetings and religious ceremonies) — all of which were built by the ancestral Puebloans (also called the Anasazi).

A great concentration of ancestral Pueblo Indian dwellings, built from the 6th to the 12th century, can be found on the Mesa Verde plateau in south-west Colorado at an altitude of more than 2,600 m. Some 4,400 sites have been recorded, including villages built on the Mesa top. There are also imposing cliff dwellings, built of stone and comprising more than 100 rooms.

The park is located within Montezuma County, Colorado, is a must-see destination for RV lovers of all ages thanks to the unique Ancestral Puebloan Cliff Dwellings.
