You have to visit the Emerald Lakes! It is considered to be the most popular one-day Hike in New Zealand. Their brilliant colors are partly caused by dissolved minerals, washed down from the thermal area of nearby Red Crater.

Facts & Tips: In winter, you may need crampons and an ice axe. It is safer to go with a guide in these conditions.

🚙Transportation: The best way to explore the destinations is to get a car and start your road trip from Auckland to Tongariro, via State Highway 1 and SH 4.
