Airport pickup is ideal if you’re arriving late, traveling with luggage, or heading straight to an expressway for a road trip. NAIA-area rentals typically offer broader inventory, clearer operating hours, and faster access to verified counters or meet-and-greet instructions—often reducing day-one logistics compared with arranging a downtown pickup.

Car Rental Planning Tips For Manila Drives
Confirm license and ID requirements before pickup: Bring your driver’s license, passport (or valid ID), and the credit card used for booking. If you’re visiting from abroad, check whether an International Driving Permit is recommended by your rental company.
Time your departure to avoid Metro Manila peak traffic: For out-of-town drives, leaving around 5–7 AM usually reduces time lost on city arterials and expressway on-ramps. Returning before the late-afternoon rush can also save an hour or more.
Plan for expressway tolls and keep cash or RFID ready: Major routes use toll roads (e.g., SLEX/NLEX/SCTEX). Some lanes are RFID-only; carry small bills and ask the rental company whether the vehicle has an RFID tag and how top-ups are handled.
Fuel up before long segments and use well-lit stations: Top up near expressway service areas or large branded stations before heading into mountain/coastal roads where stations can be less frequent. Keep your tank above half for night returns.
Download offline maps and pin key stops: Mobile signal can drop on ridge roads or rural approaches. Save offline areas in your maps app, pin your hotel/meetup points, and screenshot booking confirmations for quick access.
Choose insurance and document the car at pickup: Review collision coverage and deductibles, then take time-stamped photos/video of the exterior, wheels, windshield, and interior before leaving the lot. Report any existing damage immediately.
Expect paid parking and bring small change: Malls, heritage districts, and popular viewpoints often charge parking fees. Having small bills speeds up entry/exit and reduces delays in busy lots.
Check weather and road advisories during rainy season: Heavy rain can reduce visibility and increase flooding risk on low-lying roads. Build buffer time, avoid aggressive driving, and consider daylight-only mountain routes when conditions are poor.
